Living with MG?

A diagnosis of MG affect all aspects of a person's life. And as you may have heard, all MG patients are different...just as different as each snowflake that floats from the sky in wintertime.  The differences can add to the challenges, but many patients have many things in common as well.  And all patients need to be aware of various aspects that may affect them as a MG patient.

One key factor is to be aware of how other medical conditions and the various medications used to treat those conditions may worsen your MG symptoms.    Each doctor that treats you for whatever condition, needs to have a copy of Medications and Myasthenia Gravis provided by the MGFA.  This is a very lengthy article; however, it is in PDF format and you can open this from the MGFA website or the link above.  Read it and even print it in whole or print the sections that contain information about your specific health conditions and provide your doctors this information.  For your convenience we have included here a printable copy of the list of medications to be used with caution with MG patients. Click HERE and just print page from your browser .  (Note:  Though "Statins: Lipid-lowering Drugs" is discussed in the literature section, these medications were NOT added to the two tables of meds to used with caution.  I personally had an extreme reaction to statins, but many MG patients can used then without any issues.  The key here is "to be used with caution".  Make sure your physician is aware you "may" have a reaction to other drugs!

MGFA List of Information Pamphlets

The MGFA has an extensive list of pamphlets that can be accessed and read online, printed, or ordered.  This list and a link is provided under Additional Resources in the right column.  It is important to read and learn all you can about MG as it does affect all areas of your life.  Also, don't forget to share this information with your family, friends, and caregivers.

Personal Stories

A valuable resources to have is the opportunity to read about other MG patients personal experience with MG.  The first two stories are in memory of two pioneer MG patients...their battles with MG led to Memorial MG Clinics held in the NWTC area in order to bring greater MG awareness, diagnosis and treatments closer to home.  Over the years, many MG patients have been diagnosed and treated right here in our Chapter area...lives have been saved! We honor those who have gone before us and are thankful for these additional stories that have been shared with us!
